Colum McCann: The Way the World Spins - the importance of research

Please take a look at this installment of the Writer's Almanac. Not only is the Dickinson poem terrific, but the sheer volume of the extent of Colum McCann's research for The Way the World Spins (an astonishing book) is astonishing.
What piece are you writing that could benefit from more and extensive research?

Here's a great conversation about taking breaks from our work.

I agree with both Steven and Shawn. Above all, never take a break when you have submitted a project for publication. You'll lose your mojo. Make sure you're deep into another project and will be able to pay scant attention to the manuscript that has left you.
